Storm Damage Roof Repair

GA Roofing & Repair, Inc., located in Atlanta and Alpharetta, specializes in storm damage roof repair and roof replacement services. We have plenty of experience working with insurance companies, which will help ensure that the process is as stress-free as possible for our valued clients. Just about everyone who endures chilly winters in Georgia finds themselves happy to see the cold temperatures go, but we all know that when the weather starts warming up, severe storms that contain hail and/or tornadic high winds often follow. Hail and high winds are two of the most common environmental causes of roof storm damage. In fact, it’s so widespread that in the U.S. alone, it adds up to nearly $1 billion each year in insurance claims.

Atlanta Storm Damage Roof Repair & Replacement

Even a moderate hailstorm or tropical storm in Atlanta can cause significant roof storm damage. The tricky part of inspecting the damage is that it may not be obvious immediately after the storm. Different types of roofing materials will experience different kinds of damage as well, which is why it takes an expert to know what really needs to be done to ensure that your roof is in tip-top shape after a storm.

When the storm has passed, the professionals at GA Roofing & Repair will assess the roof damage, providing you with the necessary storm damage repair or roof replacement services. If your roof and collateral damages exceed the clients insurance deductible amount we’ll guide you on how to file an insurance claim.

Storm Damage Roof Inspection

Has your home or place of business been hit recently with a severe storm and might have roof damage? The steps below can help you determine if your roof has suffered from hail damage, wind, or tree damage and what further storm damage roof inspection actions you may need to take.

1. Roof vent caps — Inspecting these thin, aluminum fixtures allows you to see if hail or falling tree limbs have struck your roof. Dents usually do not impede the proper function of the roof vent caps, but they are an indication of whether or not hail or a falling tree has struck your roof. They can also give you a better idea of the extent of damage that may have occurred.

2. Downspouts — You should check to see if there is a significant amount of shingle granules in your downspouts. Although granule loss does not necessarily mean that there is damage to a roof, significant loss is usually a sign that the roof has been severely weathered or damaged.

3. Shingles — Hail damage to roof shingles on your roof will present as a random pattern of varying sizes. If your shingles are damaged in a sort of pattern, then you can assume that hail was not the cause. Hail strikes shingles in a manner that will leave a “bruise” in the mat, which can usually be felt by touch. In addition to these bruises, the shingles may have complete holes in them. Be wary when assuming holes are due to hail, however, because such damage looks similar to that resulting from heat blisters. Missing, creased, or lifted shingles are a good indication of high wind damage and should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent water from entering through exposed plywood decking and nail holes. Tree damage is easily detected, but not always easy to fix. Depending on the severity of the blow, your roof underlayment, plywood decking, and structural supports may have been impacted and repairs should be completed immediately or tarped until repair services can be safely completed.

4. Leaks — If your roof begins to leak after a hailstorm or high winds, it’s basically a given that you are dealing with roof damage. Roof leaks may not come immediately after the storm. Therefore, it is important to be aware that there may be damage to the roof even if it is not yet leaking and still within its useful age.

Characteristics of Roof storm Damage

The effects of storm roof damage hail strikes on asphalt shingles vary according to the conditions at the time of the hailstorm. If hail is accompanied by rain, as is common in the Midwest and the West Coast, the rain will cool the roof, making the asphalt harder. Hailstones striking rain-cooled, hard asphalt are more likely to loosen or displace granules. That being said, hail is not always accompanied by rain. There are times when your roof may be hot and the asphalt soft when the hailstones hit. Hailstones striking hot, dry, softer asphalt are more likely to embed the granules deeper into the material. This doesn’t mean that you’ll see one condition as opposed to the other. It means that conditions during the hailstorm can influence the appearance of hail damage.
